To shine a light on Artipelag’s exhibition I Follow the Sun, we created an OOH campaign inspired by the way sunflowers turn towards the sun.
The exhibition explores the role of the sunflower in art from 1889 until today. It features Nordic artists such as Carl Larsson and Lena Cronqvist as well as international names like Emil Nolde, Ai Weiwei, and Anselm Kiefer.
The idea stands out, literally. A sunflower designed in metal leans out from the top edge of the billboard. The metal flower creates a sharp shadow that moves across the yellow background during the day. To understand how the shadow would move, we conducted a solar study. The study became the basis for the design of the sunflower as well as the exact location and angle. As the sunflower follows the sun, so does this ad.
The installation is part of the campaign for I Follow the Sun which includes billboards, in digital channels, print, podcasts, and the subway.
