XL-BYGG - HOT COUTURE
How do you make insulation fun? We took it to the runway.
Together with XL-BYGG, we created a transparent puffer jacket filled with stone wool insulation. A material that usually hides behind walls and facades suddenly became the star of a very different kind of winter fashion. We call it Hot Couture. The project went on to win gold at Svenska Designpriset 2026.
As a partner to the Swedish Olympic team, XL-BYGG wanted to create something that would stand out during the Winter Olympics. And with the games taking place in Milan, the fashion capital of the world, the timing couldn't have been better.
Made with 100% stone wool insulation, the statement piece puts an everyday building material centre stage. Crafted in a limited edition in Borås, the jackets were made exclusively for XL-BYGG staff to wear during the games.
The project celebrates the materials, craftsmanship and expertise that often go unseen but make all the difference. It also gives XL-BYGG an opportunity to demonstrate the value of choosing the right materials, especially when performance matters most. Because whether you’re building for the harshest winter or dressing for it, the right insulation changes everything.
